Does Black & White Photography Tell a Better Story?

Black and white photography, for some reason, seems to tell a story so much deeper than any photo in color ever could. I came to this realization when I was flipping through dozens of black and white photos in a Colorado ski town art gallery while on a ski trip. Each photo, without any accompanying words, could tell its own story. Whether it was a photo of historic mining equipment or a skier ripping down a big mountain line, there was more depth to the photo that made me want to inquire more about that moment. Fortunately for us, the …

How to Fix Overly-Blue Underwater Photos

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten back from a day in the water SCUBA Diving, Snorkeling, or Surfing, and have been totally disappointed by my underwater photos. Every time, they come out looking the same. The photos area all overly blue, with little color elsewhere in the photo. And the deeper the depth that the photo was taken, the worse the photo looks. I always wondered if there was any way to save those photos that I worked so hard to capture in the first place. Of course, I could have used a fancy filter to add …

Photo Gallery | Skiing Jackson Hole

I’ll be the first to tell you how lucky I am to have Jackson Hole located within a 4.5hr drive from me. That isn’t much further than Stowe was from where I lived in Hartford, CT. Needless to say, when my two buddies, Kyle and Pete, said they were headed up there for the weekend to ski, I jumped on the opportunity. The original plan was to ski a big line in Grand Teton National Park, but Jackson was getting dumped on the preceding couple days. With avalanche danger too high, we resorted to coughing up some $$$ and bought day passes to ski Jackson Hole (pun intended). Not a bad backup plan.

After working our way through the endless lift lines, we finally reached the Thunder Chair where we spent nearly the entire day. Lap after lap, we skied the woods under the Thunder Chair and Tower Three Chute. And the snow dumping and wind whipping, we were finding deep snow all day long! Here’s some of the photos from the shoot.

My Bests of 2019

2019 will forever be a year I remember for the rest of my life, it was a milestone year in the true sense of the word. I asked the love of my life to marry me in one of the most fitting ways, we bought a condo together earlier in the year, climbed some of the most incredible mountains, and oh yeah, skied some 70+ days last year. There’s no way I could ever summarize this year into a post (or even twelve), but it’d be foolish not to look back on the best memories and highlights from this year.  …

Meeting Chris Burkard | Photographer & Story Teller

Some people dream about meeting their heroes like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, or Alex Honnold. And while sure, I’d also like to meet those guys because of all the things they’ve achieved over their careers, I really wanted to meet Chris Burkard. Even though you may never have heard of him, you’ve definitely seen his work. And that work has had, arguably, the greatest impact on this path of photography and storytelling that I am on today.  Chris Burkhard is an award winning explorer and photographer who’s traveled around the world capturing some of the most incredible images of this …
