A half marathon, in the desert of Colorado, right along the mighty Colorado River, what else could we ask for? Although we were reluctant to sign up for a spring race, because that meant we would most likely have to be training in the snow, Courtney and I both signed up for the Desert Rats Half Marathon in Fruita, Colorado. Better yet, this race would coincide with our third wedding anniversary right next to the town of Palisade, where we go every year to celebrate in Colorado’s wine country! Talk about a win-win! Well, it would be a lot of …

Race Report: Cirque Series Brighton Trail Race
What an absolutely incredible race course for the Brighton Cirque Series! The Cirque Series is a group of mountain running aces around the West that primarily climb up ski resorts in the summer, highlighted by the steep vertical climbing required in a short distance. And of the three ski resorts that host a Cirque Series race in the summer, I think the Brighton resort has, by far, the most incredible race course & trail of them all. The stats for this race were 3,000 ft of climbing in 6.7miles. It had everything, from ridgeline boulder scrambling, 5 mountain peaks, technical …
The Eden Epic | A Truly INSANE Mountain Bike Race
7 Hours in the saddle. 8,000 vertical feet of climbing. 3 miles of hike-a-bike. Oh, and of course a rain-storm that came in just as the racers were on the 9,500′ ridgeline dropping the temps to a finger-numbing 40 degrees. That’s just a part of the sufferfest that is known as the Eden Epic mountain bike race. Mixed in, during the 45 mile perpetual slog, was actually a stunning landscape that wrapped around high above the Eden valley. Check the course out on Trailforks.com. The race course was a mix of forest roads that were rocky, muddy, and steep, as …
Enduro & XC Mountain Bike Racing | Lessons Learned from my 2020 Season
They say, no matter what fitness or skill level you’re at, racing will always make you a better rider. To that, I can completely agree. This 2020 season has been filled with many ups and downs, in both XC and Enduro. Even though these Midweek Mountain BIke races are just local, they are still highly competitive and filled with some of the best riders in the state. And this year, after riding pretty well in the Sport Category in 2019, I decided to jump up to the Expert Category (right below Pro). And boy was I in for a rude …
Video: My Cirque Series Experience
The Cirque Series has been on my bucket list ever since 2017 when I saw them for the first time. The idea of running all the way up to the peak of a mountain, and then back down seemed crazy. But at the same time, I couldn’t help wanting to throw my hat in the ring on race day. Well, on Saturday, September 7th, my “wish” came true. Holy Sh!t… this was the toughest single event I’ve ever done, including the Grand Teton, and it was worth every, single, painful stride. The mapped race was 8.7 mile course with 3,566 …

Last MidWeek MTB Race of the Season | Final Points Standing
With the Midweek MTB race season wrapping up with last week’s final race at Solitude, it’s time to look back on my second race season. This season was much more successful, and fun, than last year. I no longer was getting smoked by every single rider at the start, and left in the dust on every climb. I took the riding a little more seriously going into every race, putting in harder miles than I normally would to get into race shape. Turns out, putting in the work really does pay off. The last race was a really fun XC …
Ragnar Trail Tetons
This past weekend, the Tetons were a base camp (again). But this time, I was on the other side of them at Grand Targhee Resort for the Ragnar Trail Tetons. Fortunately for me, I wasn’t running this one and was only there as a support team (and on dog duty). And having the full weekend to witness all the event’s energy and participants, it was definitely something I wanted to share. Zachary KenneyHi there, my name is Zachary Kenney and I’m an adventure filmmaker & photographer. My passion is to tell stories that will hopefully motivate you to go live …
