What started as an idea on a walk around our neighborhood in the historic winter of 2022/2023, thinking of ways to escape the snow, quickly snowballed into reality. That spring we sold our Tacoma, bought a van, and then spent the next 9 months building it out to prepare for as much travel as we could in 20224. Of course it wasn’t with out it’s challenges and frustrating moments when the build didn’t go quite as planned or the internet wasn’t what we needed it to be. But in the end, it was one hell of an exciting winter.
Our first leg of the journey took us across the country to our families in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to celebrate Christmas before pointing the van down south. From there we made stops in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, followed by ringing in the new year in Savannah, Georgia. Enjoying a snow-free January for the first time in my life, we made the most out of the warm weather. But the fun really began once we got down to Florida where we’d spend the next month!
Still hanging around Florida, we headed back down to the Keys to get some diving in before making our way back up north. Needing to balance our work and fun, we hung out for a week in Pompano Beach before heading across the state to check out the Gulf Coast. Plus, this was a chance to celebrate Courtney’s birthday with all her friends that flew in to join us in Fort Meyers Beach. This portion of the trip rounded out as we headed north along the Gulf, stopping to see the Manatee migration and eventually up to Pensacola Beach and Alabama. Though the weather wasn’t as ideal as it had been early on in the trip, but it was still far from the snowy winter we were getting back in Utah.
Rounding out the trip, and maybe the best part of our time on the road, we headed to Texas! We had no idea how amazing the beaches would be. Between Galveston and Corpus Christi, the time on the beach was absolutely incredible. Couldn’t get over how warm it was, making it the perfect escape for February. A place we can’t wait to get back to, are the free North Padre Island beaches to camp on before we headed up to Austin. The music and amazing vibes from that city will always have us stop by every time we are in Texas. But issues with the house had us scrambling back to Utah ASAP, and sadly had to end the trip prematurely.
Finishing up our winter trips, the three of us loaded into our van again after the long trip back east and pointed south from Utah to Las Vegas and Arizona. With no real set agenda, besides getting out of the snow and to explore the desert, we had all the opportunities in front of us. We got our first tattoos in Vegas, wandered the Sedona red rocks, and even found a new wine region we fell in love with. Oh, and last but not least, we made it to the Grand Canyon!
Later on in 2024, we found ourselves back in the desert outside of Moab, a half marathon in Fruita, Colorado, a long weekend in the remote corner outside of Goblin Valley, and that was all before an epic month on the road through Oregon and California. Check back in a few months so hopefully I’ll have enough time to get through all that footage and make a few good videos out of them!
