Meaningful Mountain Biking Story | Why are they so difficult to tell?

Why does it seem so difficult to tell a meaningful mountain biking story? For the past 4 years I’ve been seriously riding mountain bikes. And for the past 4 years, I’ve been hooked on watching mountain biking films and edits. But at the end of the day, and no matter how much backstory goes into a film, it’s focal point is always bike porn. By that, I mean endless cut sequences of riders slaying trails as fast as possible and with as much style as they can. Zero depth. As I’m writing this story, I’m watching Red Bull Media House’s new …

#Vanlife in San Diego, California

After years of Instagram envy, seeing all these couples and adventurers living out of a sprinter van, exploring all the greatest places in the world, we finally did it! We joined the #Vanlife! Well, I guess that’s a stretch. We didn’t exactly quit our jobs, move into a van with our dog, and adventure full time. Come to think of it, we’ve done the exact opposite. Instead, we wanted to see if we’d even like the #Vanlife after all these years of fantasizing about it. We’re used to car camping out of the truck for most of our trips, but …

Comprehensive Jacket Guide: Which Jacket is Best for Every Mountain Adventure?

Trying to find or choose the right jacket for your adventures can be an overwhelming task. Depending on the temperature, forecast, activity, etc., the decision on which jacket can be a make or break for success in the mountains. Pack too light, you could go home with hypothermia. Pack too heavy, you might not reach your goal (or you’ll be sweating the entire time). Those are just a few things that can go wrong if you chose the wrong jacket. Become Your Own Bike Mechanic | Learn to Fix Everything

There are few things, on this earth, that are as important as being able to fix your own bike problems. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but you understand what I’m getting at. Rather than shipping your gear off to a shop to be fixed, or worse, resorting to buying completely new parts, start trying to fix it yourself. At first, this is a completely daunting task; but after you fix your first mechanical issue, it will be such a satisfying, self-sufficient, rewarding feeling. If you spend enough time riding your bike, you’ll eventually break a few things. Sometimes it’s as …

Mountain Biking Fruita, Colorado with Gregor the Trail Dog

When it comes to mountain biking, there’s simply no bad days. Whether it’s a cruiser lap on the local trails, or an all out sufferfest that takes all day. Mountain biking is amazing. Yet, there are some rides that I’ll never forget. And a Saturday spent riding in Colorado with my fiancé, Courtney, and our trail dog, Gregor will be one of those best rides of my life. The ride was nothing out of this world, a simple, yet challenging loop at 18 Road trail system north of Fruita, Colorado. We rode from our campsite, up to the forest road …

Preparing for Ski Season

When the first morning frost hit your town, you know that ski season is right around the corner. It’s been a long summer since most of us skied last, and the first chance to ski can’t come soon enough. For those who live in the mountain west, there really hasn’t been an off season. Some of us skied the remnants of snow into August and September. But that doesn’t mean we’re all not stoked for new snow and new adventures. Whether you’re an inbounds, groomer ripper, or a backcountry powder hound, ski season is coming and it’s time to prepare. …

Renting Houseboat on Lake Powell

So, what is it like to actually drive one of these bad boys? Well the best way I can describe it is like this, “It’s like trying to drive your house, on water, with a motor built for a canoe.” But the thrill of gliding across water (or lack there of), is not the reason you rent one of these boats. You’re there to explore and navigate the canyons of Lake Powell it a truly immersive experience that you just cannot get without traveling by house boat. Renting a house boat was a part of a vacation my Fiancé, her …

Zebra Slot Canyon

Squeezing through a slot canyon that was so tight, I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d ever reach the end. With my feet wedged into the narrowest section on the bottom of the canyon, shimmying myself along the wall, my hips would go no further. I was stuck… Zachary KenneyHi there, my name is Zachary Kenney and I’m an adventure filmmaker & photographer.  My passion is to tell stories that will hopefully motivate you to go live a more adventurous life. Keyhole Canyon Canyoneering

When your friends tell you they have extra permits for a canyoneering trip in Zion National Park, you don’t think, you just say, “Yes!” And that’s exactly how I ended up in a wetsuit, in the middle of the Utah desert, descending on a rope into a dark slot canyon. Keyhole Canyon was an excellent first experience in Canyoneering. Technical, yet manageable and short. It had everything I could have ever hoped for in a canyoneering trip. Big rappels, stemming off narrow canyon walls, pools filled with water, it was epic! Located in Zion National Park, Keyhole Canyon was first …

Our Desert Engagement | Ding & Dang Canyon

To say that I was nervous might be the understatement of the century. I couldn’t sleep the night before and my hands were shaking the entire hike leading up to the moment. Little did I know that the hard part wasn’t going to be asking Courtney to marry me, rather the descent through Dang Canyon turned out to be 10x more difficult. All said and done, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Zachary KenneyHi there, my name is Zachary Kenney and I’m an adventure filmmaker & photographer.  My passion is to tell stories that will hopefully motivate you …
