Hike Cerro Chato from La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Less than 24 hours after touching down in Costa Rica, our restless legs were already carrying us up the sister peak of the Arenal Volcano, Cerro Chato or Chato Volcano. Like most of La Fortuna’s visitors, we all make the stop in there to experience the jungles of Costa Rica and everything they can offer, whether that’s hiking, nature walks, zip-lining, or waterfalls. Personally, I hate guided tour groups because they cater to the fat-Americans that come down, and that’s not the speed I like to go on. And hiking the Cerro Chato is the last remaining activity in the …

Maps.Me (My favorite Travel App)

Whether you are walking the mysterious alleyways of Amsterdam, hiking in the backcountry of New Hampshire, or just looking for an ATM in your hometown, there is one App you probably never heard of that can solve all these problems. And that app is Maps.Me. I’m not being promoted to talk about this app, but I truly believe it is the best app that any traveler could have on their phone. Maps.Me is the most detailed map that you will ever have in your pocket, and I’ve personally used it exploring cities in over 6 countries, on top of mountains, and …

Seeking Wanderlust | The Journey to Oktoberfest [video]

When you come across the opportunity to cross off a bucket list trip of a lifetime to Oktoberfest, you do everything you can to make it happen. And that’s exactly what happened. I was able to convince 6 of my friends to join me on a partial two-week trip that would start in Amsterdam, head south through Dusseldorf, Cologne, and Frankfurt until we reached the city of Munich for Oktoberfest! But it didn’t end there, we pushed south into the alps to hike the Zugspitze and then ended the trip in the Austrian cities of Innsbruck and Achensee. There were …

Innsbruck, Austria

Just a 1.5 hr train ride away from the exhausting weekend we had at Oktoberfest in Munich, rests a city at the foot of the Western Austrian Alps. That place is called Innsbruck. And even though it was cold, cloudy, and the middle of the week,  Innsbruck was an incredible place on our trip. The city sits in a valley along The Inn river and is famous for hosting the Winter Olympics in ’64 and ’76. But you can find that stuff out via Wikipedia (since that’s what I just did). What you won’t find out, until you see for …

Backpacking through Europe | How to Plan a Trip

We all have at one point, if not every single day, stared at our cubical walls and day dreamt about backpacking through Europe. You know, the way it’s been portrayed in novels and in cinema. You can picture yourself splitting a bottle of wine in the park at the base of the Eiffel Tower in Paris or wandering through the ruins of ancient Rome. Maybe even partying all night on the beaches of Barcelona or raising your liters of beer for a cheers in Munich. If not find yourself enjoying the vices on the streets of Amsterdam or feeling the …

Screw New Years Resolutions.. Make Goals for 2017

Forget about them! Resolutions are absolutely pointless. We all (myself included) make these unobtainable requests of ourselves to become the perfect version of ourselves… overnight. That is simply not how it should work, yet we do this every single year and are left disappointed by the end of February. Of course, the time of year never helps since most of us wish to be healthier and more active, in the coldest and shortest days of the year. This is my case to rebrand the whole New Years Resolution letdown into simply, “Goals for the year.” What’s the difference? Resolutions are more …

Visit Achensee Lake in Tirol, Austria

Simply beautiful. This is one of those places I’ve been, where the words to describe my first view of this place are difficult to formalize. Sounds cliché, and it totally is, but I still stand by my statement. Our taxi driver picked the four of us up from the train station and headed north, towards the mountains. The small towns we passed through were so tight, I barely thought one car could pass through, let alone us and the ones he kept passing. The road began upward from the valley, along these winding mountain roads that Zachary KenneyHi there, my …
